Pre First World War
In 1826, the first ever photograph was taken - Joseph Nicéphore Niépce took a photo out of a window on his estate of the Burgundy landscape. From then, photography, and associated technologies, advanced incredibly rapidly. Photographs became clearer and of higher quality. The period from 1826 to 1914 was full of 'firsts.' First photograph, first portrait, first underwater portrait, fist 'hoax' photograph... the list goes on. These photos are one of the clearest views into 19th (and early 20th) century life.
